Description

Designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, Torre do Burgo [Burgo Tower], with 17 floors, is possibly one of the most cosmopolitan buildings in the city, in the most exciting avenue in Porto. Evoking Mies van der Rohe’s architecture, the elevations are expressed in a modular way, without disregarding the orientation of the sun. The drawing of the façade hides in its composition the real number of floors, coveting being higher that it actually is. The architect’s irony translates itself also in the repetition of the “laid” composition of the annex volume and in its façade turned to the avenue, as if it has been cut by a knife, revealing the complexity of its construction system. Let us highlight also the wonderful sculpture by Ângelo de Sousa that contributes to the quality of the whole.
