Description

The São Cirilo Community Centre, created by Jesuits in Porto, is a building designed by architect Nuno Valentim with the purpose of accommodating people and families (national and foreign) going through temporary hard times. The community space develops from the street, in a permeable and accessible way, till the very end of the irregular plot. The light of the spaces is guaranteed by the existence of two patios with a rectangular shape and different dimensions. Serenity reigns in colour and in the transparency of the abundant glass layers that surround the small garden. Detailed in a simple way, the solution looked to fulfil the limited budget. The three floors of the main elevation express themselves through a simple language, almost generic in the scope of contemporary architecture, but sensitive to the rhythm and scale of its immediate context.
