Description
Designed by architecture atelier ARX Portugal (Nuno Mateus and José Mateus) and opened in 2004, this building has as a goal the gathering, analysis and storage of blood. In terms of construction, the building stratifies itself in several rough materials: local granite with which it touches the ground, the galvanized steel of its skin, the industrial glass of the windows and the plywood of the lower paddings. Inside the block, the visual contact with the surroundings (somewhat disqualified) is cropped by narrow and long windows that turn the chaotic environment into abstract strips filled with decontextualized landscape. Harmony is reached with the complexity of the several volumes (that do not go without a conceptual continuity: the canopy) and the sterilized interiors that follow the functional requirements.
