Description
There is a Porto before and after the underground. Once a city full of traffic jams and chaotic parking, today, Porto is more orderly and civilized, as it can be noted in the lack of turnstiles at the entry of the stations. To visit the Campo 24 de Agosto station (an homage to the Liberal Revolution in Porto in 1820) is to match the best contemporary architecture with the history of the city. Inside this station, refinedly designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, we find a wide space, somewhat theatre-like, with archaeological remnants of the “Mãe de Água” that supplied the “Mijavelhas” fountain in the old place of the “Poço das Patas” – the old name of the traditionally waterlogged field. The station has five subterranean floors, two of which are technical.
