Description
Built and originally designed in 1923 by engineer and architect Júlio Brito, the Rivoli that we can visit today is a “revised and expanded” version done by Pedro Ramalho in the end of the 1990s. Since then, when it started being run by the Municipality, it is one of the benchmark cultural centres of the city, that foresaw the Capital of Culture. This contemporary intervention, that gave the theatre new spaces and excellent technical conditions, is the result of a sensitive dialogue between the clear drawing of the new elements and the elegance of the structure and art-deco decoration that was maintained. Apart from the iconic main auditorium and the café-concerto at the top floor, the backstage will be a surprise, as it is normally hidden from the public.
