Description

Colégio dos Maristas [Maristas School] is a 1900 building assigned to architect Joel da Silva Pereira. Its neoclassic style is expressed in the openings with triangular and semi-circular pediments but also in the symmetric composition that regulates the elevation or the entrance staircase with matching balustrade. The entry porch sustains the terrace of the upper floor and also in the same axis the mansard, partly hidden by the medallion with the initials of the first owner (Boaventura Rodrigues e Sousa). The interior is not less exuberant, immediately standing out at the entrance with a staircase that forks on a level illuminated by a skylight. Restored by architects António Portugal and Manuel Reis, the building got in 2006 the João de Almada Rehabilitation Award given by the Porto Municipality.
